Getting Started

First time? Here's how to get started!
Note: You must login with a Google account to save your work.

Ask your instructor for help if you need it.

  1. Click the picture to the left to open Piskel in a new tab.
  2.  If you have a Google account and you know your username and password, you may use it to sign in so that your work can be saved. Otherwise, there is no way to create a separate Piskel account and your work will need to be saved in a different way. Press the Sign In button if you wish to connect your Google account to Piskel. Otherwise, press the Create Sprite button to open your first pixel art project.
  3. Before you go any further and begin creating, take time to view the tutorial video you see to the left. This will guide you through some of the basics and give you enough information to get started on your first creation.
  4. After viewing the tutorial, experiment with the various tools and settings to create your first pixel art design. For now, stick with a single frame, non-animated piece. Soon, you’ll be able to try your hand at creating pixel animations!
  5. When you’re finished, either save the project to your gallery if you signed in earlier with Google or ask your instructor for assistance with exporting your project.
  6. If you have time, you may begin another project. Keep in mind that unless you are signed in with Google to save, you may lose your work at the end of each class session.

Have fun!

What Should I Do?

Note: These tutorials use a different pixel art tool, Aseprite, but there is plenty of good information that will also help you to create with Piskel. You may wish to try out Aseprite on your own time.
